Final Humanities Essay
“A Midsummer Night's Dream” was one of Shakespeare's 12th plays and was an comedy and not a romance story. All of his plays had some odd scenes such as death, comedy and love put into the plays with the authority figures involved, including misfortune in love as well as deaths. In this chaotic play everything seems to be one way one moment but then another the next moment. There are two specific couples that have their authority figures too involved in their own relationship, while the third couple helps the authority figures by using outside forces. Although the authority figures in “A Midsummer Night's Dream” hate chaos, they need it to have the order they cherish restored to their society.
In “A Midsummer Night's Dream”, authority figures use magic to mess with the “lovers” lives. This story is a comedy play based on the “lovers” and how their lives change. One of the couple's life that I will explain is Demetrius and Helena. Demetrius had wooed Helena and had won her heart. Though he then shifts his attention to Hermia while she will not have any of him but her father favors him. Helena is an younger lady from Athens and is in love with Demetrius. Another couple that the authority figures had had a chaotic time with would be Lysander and Hermia. Lysander is a younger man of Athens and comes from a good family and good fortune. Hermia is Egeus’s daughter and is in love with Lysander while she refuses to marry Demetrius. The last couple that has all the magic in their field is Oberon and Titania. Oberon is the king of the fairies. While Titania, the queen of fairies, refuses Oberon and he decides to humiliate her into obedience. Although when Titania quarrels with him it disturbs the nature. Theseus says, “Do you amend it then? It lies in you. Give me one of your servants, and I will go with thee.” Titania responds with, “Not the fairy kingdom! Fairies, away!” (Shakespeare,Scene 2.) Most of the couples have the magic guiding their love lives, but can turn into complete chaos when messed with.
Demetrius and Helena are one of the couples within “A Midsummer Night's Dream”; while the authority figures think that they have their children's lives all planned out when things take a sudden turn caused by magic. Helena is deeply in love with Demetrius and wants to stay with him forever while Demetrius had fallen for Helena but is now falling for Hermia. Helena is then told by Hermia and Lysander about their plan to run away. She then decides to betray them to Demetrius so that she can see him once again. Once Demetrius is aware of Hermia and Lysander’s plan to run away, he follows them to the woods. “I love thee not, therefore pursue me not. Where is Lysander and fair Hermia? The one I'll slay, the other slayeth me. Thou told'st me they were stolen unto this wood;” (Shakespeare, Act 1, Scene 2.) Helena tags along with Demetrius and he threatens to abandon her. While that night Puck puts love juice in the “lover's” eyes and it makes Demetrius fall back in love with Helena by morning. Once the “lovers” have awoken and their minds are restored, Demetrius admits to Theseus that he is in love with Helena. Even though in the end they ended up together there was chaos caused by the magic once again and made their love life chaotic. Though once the magic had left their bodies they went back to who they loved in the beginning.
Lysander and Hermia are also one of the couples, and while their relationship gets interrupted from both magic and authority figures trying to overtake their relationship and make it perfect in their eyes while in the lover's eyes it is nothing close to perfect. Lysander, while in love with Hermia, convinces her to leave with him to his aunts house. While on their journey to the aunt’s house Lysander gets them lost in the woods, where it gets to the point where they need to sleep. While he hopes to cuddle up with Hermia, she sends him on his own to sleep. Though Hermia once awake in the morning has realized that he is gone and she is worried that Demetrius may have killed him. While they were asleep Puck had put his love juice in Lysander's eyes as well. Once Lysander awakes, just in time to see Helena, he starts to tell Helena that he loves her. this ends up being a huge rivalry between Demetrius and Lysander and they plan a duel. While this all went down Lysander ended up insulting Hermia. In the end Puck makes all well and what has just happened to him. From them getting lost in the woods to having magic change their emotions for the ones they love, they then figure out what has just happened and go back to their emotions they felt before the magic. Through all of this they disobey the authority figures by running off into the woods, to disobeying their parents wishes based on who they should marry and not.
Oberon is the king of the fairies and Titania is the queen on the fairies. They both, in a way are behind the magic in the couples relationships. Titania had started falling for Oberon. While Oberon drugs Titania in her sleep to fall in love with a creature known as Bottom, Titania ends up charming him when he ends up spending too much time chatting to the attendants she had given him. When Oberon asks her again she gives him up without a second thought. Once the charm had been taken off of her she had agreed to go bless Theseus’s house on his wedding night with Oberon. Once they were there they had both promised good fortune to all the wedded couples. Even though Oberon and Titania were were the main cause of the chaotic magic they had helped the lovers realised what they had. They had helped the couples realize that they all had each other but also that there were going to be ups and downs throughout the relationships. Oberon has puck complete certain tasks for him that will bring chaos upon the lovers.
The lovers throughout this play have been through just about everything, such as confused love, thoughts and emotions. For example when Lysander and Hermia plan to run away into the woods, Oberon has Puck go and put a love potion in their eyes that will have them fall in love with the first living thing they see. When Helena goes and wakes up Lysander, he immediately falls in love with her. Which then makes Hermia confused about Lysander. Even though this all happend to them in the end the fairy king and queen had fixed their mistakes and all was better and was a “Happily Ever Ending”.

Pol SMART Goal for Semester 2, 2015:
EVIDENCE:
Specific- I plan to put more effort and thought into my evidence and to be able to have the amount of evidence in my future projects.
Measurable- This plan is measurable, because I will incorporate at least 1-2 pieces of evidence in the beginning of the project then I will compare it to the amount of evidence i have at the end of my project.
Achievable- This plan is achievable because I know I need to improve on my evidence in all subjects and it will drive me to put the evidence in to get the grades I want.
Realistic- This plan is realistic and is something I will actually complete because I want my work to be more improved. Also if someone were to be reading or looking at my project, that my evidence would help them understand.
Timely- This plan will be executed through my whole life but will be mostly improved through my 4 years at animas, but to be improved by the end of freshman year.
SMART:
S- specific

ADVISORY SOCIAL STYLES REFLECTION: With awareness of your own individual social style, as well as others, comes the ability to have more effective communications and relationships. The[social styles] profile is based upon [my] strengths and gives [me] a chance to see the strengths of [my classmates]. With an awareness of the spectrum of social styles, [I] develop greater tolerance and understanding of other styles, and gain greater versatility in communicating (On the Edge Productions).
What is your primary style?
My primary style is more of the hands on style.
What is your secondary style?
My secondary style is more worksheets and textbook learning.
Given your social style, how do you like to be treated/interacted with?
I like to be treated equally by others and when working on an project I like to be in a group.
Given your social style, where do you sometimes feel misunderstood?
I feel misunderstood when during independent work times and I start talking to an classmate then get we trouble.
What could others do to relate with you more effectively?
To not say we weren't talking about the subject when we might have been.

Artist Statement
For my self portrait I chose to take a picture of my eye. I chose to do this because its like seeing my life from my perspective. Everyone see’s life from all different ways and this is mine. LIfe isnt always easy. We have our ups and our downs. You can keep looking forward and forget the past or you can look at the past and get lost in the present. For me I keep looking forward and just expecting the best of outcomes. You can never not get lost in the past but when you do you need to help yourself forget and keep looking/going forward with your life. My eye represents how I keep looking forward and the best and try not to look back at some of the not so great times.
